WHRDIC 20th anniversary
With louder, angrier, and stronger voices, we invite you to join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition (WHRDIC) and the 10th anniversary of the Coalition of Women Human Rights Defenders in the SWANA region (WHRD MENA) in New York City on March 10th, 2025.

WHRDIC has been supporting WHRDs worldwide for 20 years, while WHRD MENA has been relentlessly supporting WHRDs in the SWANA region for 10 years. This calls for a moment of coming together, continuing to stitch our solidarity and communities, and celebrating all the challenges we have been facing together as well as the wins we have achieved.

We have been expressing our concerns over the increasing narrative of hate and polarization across the world, and we are witnessing today a world with extreme policies, exclusionary practices, crimes of war, hate, and intentional divisions. As WHRDs and as coalitions for and by WHRDs, we want to take a moment to remind each other, our members, our allies and our partners, of the importance of standing together particularly in these times.

We have therefore decided to dedicate our anniversary event to bringing you all on a trip down memory lane to explore where we come from and what our experience in the past decade (or two) has looked like, but also to highlight and amplify the voices of WHRDs across the world with a specific intention to counter the narrative of invisibilization of women’s struggles. We will also create a space for mourning and grief, for expressing ourselves through art, and for looking ahead to the future we want to actively build together.

With all that in mind, we are very happy and excited to call on you all to join us this March 10th in New York, where we will listen to music, recite poetry, write letters to WHRDs in prison, commemorate those who are no longer with us, as well as draw our future, discuss our realities and come out with stronger communities.

Join us as we come together in this important moment to get louder, angrier and stand stronger together. Contact our social media accounts if you'd like to attend the event.
