"Spreading the echo" campaign is launched on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence
On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, WHRDIC is launching the “SPREADING THE ECHO” campaign. For 16 days, we will feature the profiles of 30 women human rights defenders imprisoned for their human rights work and activism.
The co-sponsors of this campaign are our members and allies Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD); FEMENA; Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA); Front Line Defenders; Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR); IM-Defensoras; Regional Coalition for Women Human Rights Defenders in Southwest Asia and North Africa (WHRDMENA Coalition); Tanggol Bayi - Philippines; Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR); World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), who provided information on the cases.
The Coalition will also organise the "Letter to Sister: Power to WHRD in Prison" session at the AWID Forum 2024, where we’ll write letters to imprisoned WHRDs. Our demand is to set all WHRDs free.
WHRDIC first launched the #SpreadingTheEcho campaign last year. This year, WHRDs Gabriela and Mayela, arrested in 2023, were freed! They reached out to WHRDIC, sharing their gratitude for standing with them in the collective fight for their freedom.
We stay in solidarity with WHRDs and feminist movements worldwide. The echo is spreading as soon as the words of resistance are passing her lips. Our voices will be heard. Set all WHRDs FREE! #SpreadingTheEcho #freeWHRDs
